Brief History of Children's Department

The Sunday School Department of Lagos Presbyterian Church, Yaba (Children’s Department) is dated back to the inauguration of the Yaba congregation in the 60s. This department has undergone great transformations over the years to become what it is today – a spiritually vibrant organization of God’s children focused on training the children in the way of the Lord and raising them to become leaders in society.

The Children’s Department was initially located at the Community Hall which is being used today as the Primary School. Children of all ages were kept together but classes were however divided for lessons.

Later in the early 90s when the number of children increased, the department was moved to the hall in front of the bookshop. As more teachers joined the department and the children increased in number, the need to separate the teenagers from rest of the children was suggested and the teenage church was born. Today it has grown steadily to become a “mini’ church with about 120 teenagers.

In 2007, the department moved to the Rehoboth Hall where it currently operates with the teenage church holding on the first floor and the children on the ground floor. Our population is over 500 children.

The department has been directed by the following able leaders.

1. Mr. Archibong 70s to 1980
2. Elder (Mrs.) Oriaku Uduma 1981 – 1991
3. Elder Idika Uche 1992 – 1996
